Surveys conducted by IBA Team: Every year team conducts several surveys in Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas in India.


1. IBA Survey in Jharkhand


A bird survey was conducted by Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN) in Jharkhand during December 23–28, 2013. Survey was done in Palamu Tiger Reserve, Topchachi Wildlife Sanctuary, Tilaiya Dam, and Hazaribag Wildlife Sanctuaries in Jharkhand.

Dr. Raju Kasambe, Project Manager, Mr. Satya Prakash, State Coordinator of IBCN along with other IBCN members participated in the bird survey. The Forest Department of Jharkhand and Neo-Human Foundation of Hazaribag organized the bird survey with BNHS.


2. IBA Survey in Manipur

A bird survey was done in three Important Bird Areas (IBAs) of Manipur state, northeast India, during December 9–18, 2013.  The survey team included the following IBCN members from Manipur: Mr. R.K. Birjit Singh, Mr. K.H. Brajesh, Mr. R.K. Jotin, Mr. L. Gopen, Mr. Sobhapati Samon (Reporter, Assam Tribune), and Mr. Premjit Elangbam.

The bird survey was carried out in three IBAs, namely Loktak Lake and Keibul Lamjao National Park, Yangoupokpi Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary, and Shirui Community Reserve. Comparatively little is known about the bird diversity and habitats of these areas, due to logistical reasons.

The IBA-IBCN programme of the BNHS aims to cover many more such little-known areas in future.


3. Survey of Thar Desert in Rajasthan

Two members from IBA Team, Mr. Siddhesh Surve and Mr. Noor Khan accompanied Dr. Rahmani in survey of birds and mammals in the Thar Desert, Rajasthan from January 23 to February 14, 2014.
