BIODIVERSITY STUDIES FOR THE PROPOSED GARGAI AND PINJAL WATER SUPPLY PROJECT, THANE DISTRICT

Dr. Ranjit Manakadan will guide the researcher on the bird component of this project with sampling, data analysis and report writing. The project, headed by Dr. Deepak Apte and funded by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM),  will make a biodiversity assessment of the two areas that will be submerged under the proposed  Gargai and Pinjal Water Supply Project in Thane district, Maharashtra and prepare a conservation plan for the area in general.

                                                                                            

EVALUATION OF THE WATERBIRDS OF ODIYUR LAGOON– A WETLAND NEAR THE PROPOSED CHEYYUR THERMAL POWER PLANT

 

Undertook a short survey with our GC member Ms. Tara Gandhi and Madras Naturalists Society members in October 2013, and prepared a report on the importance of the wetland, which should be declared as an IBA site. The wetland faces threats due the proposal to establish a 4000 MW thermal power plant in its vicinity.   The report Evaluation of the Waterbirds of Odiyur Lagoon – A wetland near the proposed Cheyyur Power Plant, was released at the press conference in Chennai on 4th by the BNHS’s Vice President and Member of the Governing Council, Dr. Ravi Chellam.
