BNHS is happy to announce that its series of lndian language books is now available to the general public for just Rs 300 each. The Indian language books, which are a translation of the original book “Birds of Indian Sub-continent” by Richard Grimmet, Carol and Tim Inskipp are available in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Urdu, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. These books cover either northern or southern India depending upon which language they are in.
BNHS has been getting good response for this unique initiative of providing field guides in Indian languages, so much so that the Hindi and Marathi versions are currently out of stock. While, English is known to an increasing number of people in the country, especially the youngsters across rural and urban areas, Indian language editions are also in demand. These editions greatly help in identifying birds from their regional names, which are often cited by local guides when out in the field.
The language editions of Grimmet’s book retain all the earlier features of the original English book such as lively illustrations, distribution maps, scientific names, habits and regional variations. The sale proceeds of these language editions will also go towards the conservation efforts of the Society. We are sure nature lovers and readers will take maximum benefit of this opportunity to get the language editions at reasonable price. These books are wonderful gifts to give to forest guards, mahouts, tourist guides, local community leaders, students, researchers and nature lovers.
