The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) is looking out for a Coordinator Mining Issues with a passion for nature conservation and wildlife research.
Job Description: To produce a detailed countrywide report along the following lines. Name of the mining agency; location of the mines; area of the mine, coordinates etc; mineral/ore to be mined – tonnes per annum; transportation of the ore; total life of the project; total investment; summary of environmental and human displacement issues; names of organizations and individuals involved in campaigning against the project (if any); status of EIA, Public hearing, environmental clearance, forest clearance, CEC clearance, NBWL clearance, court cases, etc; note on the implications of the new mining policy re environment/ecology.
Job Specification: The potential candidate should be a graduate or post graduate, preferably in Biological Sciences. The candidate should be well informed of mining issues in the country. He should have a good idea of ongoing mining projects and ongoing campaigns in the various states. The candidate shall have knowledge about mining projects in the pipelines. He should have good articulated writing and verbal skills. He should be able to coordinate with people organizations, institutions and government agencies.
