In Harmony with Nature - A Teacher's Handbook

‘In Harmony with Nature -- a teacher’s handbook on learning for sustainable living in Maharashtra’ aims at helping the teachers to develop education programmes that will lead young people to understand the complexities linked with improving the quality of life for people and improving the quality of the environment.

The handbook comprises of six themes such as biodiversity, air, water, soil, energy, and people. Each chapter is divided into two sections; first section with background information providing sufficient information for the teachers to teach the topic and second section with the complementary activities. Each chapter has a set of 5-6 indoor and outdoor activities. The focus of these activities is to bring out attitudinal change among the students to bring out necessary action that benefits the community at large. The content is kept simple and jargon-free. It is thoroughly illustrated for easy understanding. A lot case studies and facts have been included to ease the reading of the handbook.

The handbook is published in two languages; English and Marathi. Over 15000 teachers and teacher-trainers from Vidarbha and Western Maharashtra would be trained through the workshops, and the handbook would be distributed as resource. We intend to tie up with the Maharashtra Education department for the purpose of training of teachers.

We hope this handbook is well received by the educators and would become an indispensable resource book as far as learning for sustainable living is concerned.
