Friends of BNHS
Among the many beautiful things nature has to offer us, perhaps the most valuable is to make us pause….. and wonder - at its breath taking beauty. No experience can come even close to our gentle brushes with nature, be it with – the busy chirping birds, the playful butterflies flitting amongst colourful flowers, the delicate poise of fresh dew drops on a leaf, the majestic mountains reaching out to the sky, the waltzing trees in the gentle breeze, or the racy beat of the flowing brook. And yet, more often than not in the mad rush of our lives, we are oblivious to the natural beauty around us.
A: The BNHS Platform and its uniqueness
The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) provides the perfect platform from which we can savour nature’s beauty and act effectively to protect our natural resources for the benefit of our own and future generations. Natural resources are critical for the country’s economy and its management requires a scientific approach and informed decision making. For over a century and more of its existence, BNHS - the largest NGO in the field of nature conservation, has focussed on hard core research in natural history, the findings of which get translated into various nature education / awareness and conservation programmes, to reach out to different sections of society.
BNHS’ uniqueness stems from what it has to offer to all nature lovers. The moment you step into the precincts of BNHS you are immediately transported to a charming world. You bump into avid naturalists, scientists passionate about natural history, keen trekkers who are more than willing to share their experiences with nature. BNHS is probably the only place where a nature lover gets to interact on a one to one basis with an expert from the field. The amazing range of publications and periodicals available with BNHS only serve to further whet your appetite for nature. And of course the opportunity to participate in regular treks and walks to explore nature first hand, only completes this novel experience. Needless to say all this rests on a sound scientific base.
